Circa 1870s German factory bass

This is an old factory German Bass with a 42.5" string length. Fully carved, round back instrument with a profound voice. Recently repaired and put in excellent playing condition by luthier David Pope in Davenport, Iowa. The upper bouts have been cut down and you can see where the original real purfling ends and someone scribed a line to resemble purfling on the back. The result is a very petite upper bout profile with incredibly easy access to the upper register. Honestly one of the best jazz sounds I have heard in person.
